Ingredients

  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ¾ cup light brown sugar, tightly packed
  • 2 sticks (1 cup) butter, softened but not melted
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 2½–3 cups unsifted all-purpose flour, adjusted to batter thickness
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 12 ounces chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Mix 2½ cups flour, salt, and baking soda in a bowl and set aside.
  3. Combine softened butter with white sugar and brown sugar and mix until combined.
  4. Add vanilla and mix completely.
  5. Add eggs one at a time, combining completely after each egg.

  7. Mix in chocolate chips.
  8. Drop onto a baking sheet by rounded tablespoons.
  9. Bake for 9–11 minutes until golden brown and no longer wet-looking on top.
  10. Cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes.

Estimated from generic ingredient profiles and a Nestlé Toll House semisweet chocolate-chip label proxy; not laboratory tested. Assumes 42 equal cookies, 2¾ cups flour (330 g), ¾ cup white sugar (148.5 g), ¾ cup packed brown sugar (159.8 g), unsalted butter, and 2 large eggs. At the same flour quantity, making 36 cookies gives about 165 calories each; 48 gives about 125. Flour quantity, cookie size, and chocolate brand change values. Salted butter adds about 35 mg sodium per cookie. Fiber and protein are omitted because the chocolate label reports each as less than 1 g per tablespoon, preventing a reliable total.
